I have heard that after 5 years the coolant hoses and the serpentine belt should be changed.:eek:Is this typical? My car has approx 68K miles on it. That makes for some pretty expensive maintenance.I would appreciate any input.

PS If I could afford to do only one, which would be more critical?

    Hmmmmm....
    6-5 and pickem.

I'm not familiar with the maintenance schedule for the G2, but I'd probably be tempted to roll the dice after a thorough inspection of each. This is especially true for the belt, since I'm not sure that it drives anything important. IIRC, the G3 is beltless.
I'm sure that there's a wrench swinger out there that will tell you that you're driving a death trap if you don't get these components changed at the 5 year point, but since the car is already out of warranty, and these components are probably good for 100K+ miles under normal use......like I said.
If it were my car, I'd roll the dice and keep driving. Especially if you’re going to be illuminating the “change-owner” light during the next couple of years.
    68K isn't a lot of miles on a G2.

Besides.... ;) there's a 100-percent chance that you will not have a mechanic induced failure on your car if you take the mechanic out of the loop.
    Just sayin' .....

    Good Luck!

that is about the general rule of thumb for such things as a preventeative measure

that said I have also put 200K miles on a Camry wihthout ever having a hose fail and I never replaced them

Don't both with the belt or hoses. The belt will go 100,000+ easy, the hoses will last probably 20 years. Do drain+fill the transaxle. That's it.

I changed the 2 radiator hoses at 100,000 and the coolant, called O'rielly's
found out there 19 heater hoses cost around $300 forget that. I felt some
of the hoses, there still ok. I'll do that much later.

Way back in the dark ages a few decades ago, 5 years was considered good life for belts and hoses. They have improved a lot in the past few decades.
