On my new (used) Prius (2005) I need to plug in this black box to the positive and negative terminals of my battery. However, the battery is different to the one in the video - i only have this massive silver battery that seems unsafe to remove..anyone done this and can advise? Here are some pictures of under my hood -

That's not your battery - that's the inverter. Your 12V battery is probably in the rear of the vehicle (I never had a Gen II, but my Gen III's battery was in the back.) Check your owner's manual.

As @RRxing said, that's the inverter, not the battery. He is correct that your 12V battery is in the back.

And as the video instructions say, check your car's manual for the location. It's on pages 418-419 in the 2007 manual for U.S. models. It could be elsewhere in your manual.

Looks like a little telematics gizmo, maybe to keep track of where the car is.

I watched most of the linked video. Confirmed: it's a telematics device.

Hook it up at the underhood or interior fuse box on an unswitched fuse. Or to the 12v wiring on the obd2 connector. There are plug and play obd2 jumper cables as well.

You do not need to remove the battery, but this video shows where it is.
