Icebreakers - a sign of spring?

    An icebreaker was working the bay yesterday. I thought it might be the first sign of spring, but it looks like they were only breaking a path for the fuel tanker. They do that all winter if they can. Tomorrow's forecast: 100% chance of snow. I may never get to sail this year.

    The Fitzgerald was more of an ice-maker than icebreaker. The ice really freezes on those big freighters in the late fall. Talk about top hamper. It does bad things to their stability.

    This breaker was the Mackinaw.

    This is all consistent with global warming too.
