My car got damaged by rodents. I have a good mechanic but would like to know more going in before I show up.

The ONLY damage is to the circled part in this stock photo which no longer exists in my car and two little sad wires are left poking out of the big bundle.

What is this part called and what did it do? My error codes are all nonspecific and every one seems to be screaming about the voltage.

I'm looking at the one on my car which is similar. It is on the 12V battery negative terminal bus and appears to be some sort of current or temperature sensor. There is a two conductor wire leading away, your remaining two wires, that plug into a sensor of some sort on the side of the battery negative terminal clamp. There also might be something in that flat black plastic piece on top, which I don't feel like trying to disassemble at the moment.
