If toyota makes one, would you get a pluging prius?

It's funny to read the comments too. Those guys think that windowless toaster on wheels is attractive.

 

The future plugin hybid I might consider but adding a plugin feature the the current car wouldn't interest me at all.

When I leave my house the first thing I do is coast down a two mile highway so my meter is always full green by the time I get to the freeway.

I presume you mean 65 mph.

Of course, it's almost meaningless to talk about average mpg on a plug-in, because it depends on your mix of driving and how often you drive far enough in a day to need the gas engine.

It would be infinite for a person who never drives more than 30 miles per day. It would be 100 for someone who drives 60 miles per day, assuming an engine mpg of 50. And it would diminish towards 50 for someone who drives several hundred miles per day, and might not be worth the extra cost fot that person.

Yes, I would pay the extra $2K in an eyeblink, to get a freeway-capable plug-in hybrid with a 30-mile battery range. But with freeway speed limits here at 70 mph, and 75 in some parts of the country, I'd want the car to be capable of those speeds, with decent acceleration, even if it had to use the ICE over 65 mph.

From the specs you describe, and for just $2k more... I'd buy it yesterday. I'd pay $10k extra for what you propose. $15k for one that's all electric with 250 mile range.

 

I have been looking to buy a slightly wrecked Prius for several months now, for the sole purpose of making it a plug-in. I mean if it has a salvage title the warranty is shot anyway, so converting it can't void a warranty that doesnt exist. I know it's a risk but one I would happily take to get a PHEV.
So YES, Count me in.

Will you be able to get insurance? You don't show a location. In California getting insurance with a salvaged title isn't pleasant.

Unless you're making decisions for Toyota, you might as well ask anything...since the answer will make no difference.


As for GM's Volt concept car, the article in today's paper said they're estimating 2011-2012. They're still counting on someone to actually make the Li-Ion battery they'd like to use.

But it makes the American people---and the stockholders---think GM's doing something. Anything to counter the recent story that Toyota's sales may pass GM's.

Many of us are old enough to remember when the US automakers got hammered by Japan in the late 70s. Now it's just another generation of morons running these same automakers. And their arrogance will get them hammered the same way.

Poor GM, they still believe the Prius is no good, and is only being marketed by Toyota to put forth a fake appearance of being green.
