I sent emails to IIHS Chamelle Matthew, Senior Communications Specialist ([email protected]) about:
https://www.iihs.org/news/detail/iihs-creates-safeguard-ratings-for-partial-automation
• What criteria did the IIHS President David Harkey use to claim these systems are ineffective? I cited the Tesla reports that AutoPilot is 8x safer than the NHTSA metric of accidents per million miles.
• My next letter suggested improvements: (1) environmental warning and alert in adverse weather like heavy rain; (2) deployment as a count or percentage of cars sold if standard and ignore extra fee, optional versions, and; (3) percent of highways and roads are usable.
I have no idea if either email will be responded. I pointed out that in 2019 I bought my Tesla Model 3 and paid for optional AutoPilot. Within months, a temporary medical event was handled by AutoPilot and paid for itself that day.

I'm getting a 404 error with your link.

The claim is because the systems do a poor job of monitoring the driver, and let them treat these Level 2 systems like full self driving by taking their attention off the road, which has lead to crashes.

The new rating isn't about how well the systems work, but about how well they ensure the driver keeps attention on the road. For instance, a good rating requires the system to monitor both the driver's gaze and hand position. I don't think any car does both at this time.

Let them look, like they've done in the past - and ever since the days of Prius unintended acceleration;

How else can they justify their existence. Older drivers especially, are likely to hit the wrong pedal, then blame the car for not stopping
