We sold our 2011 Prius and are planning to replace it with a Prius III. The 2014's don't seem to be out yet in my 75 mile radius of Sacramento, California.

I've got a nice price from TrueCar for $24,200 or so with the Solar sun roof & standard nav.

My wife and I are at an impasse. She feels if we hold off until the 2014's are out, the 2013's should drop even further, especially the upper models like the Prius III.

I've got an appointment at the dealer today, and I'm not sure if I should buy or back off.

    Advice?
    Thanks in advance.

just xurious, why did you sell the 11?

I don't like to keep a daily driver past three years. I'm looking for the best time to get the best price on a '13.
2015 is too far off for us.

And regarding the artists drawing, I can't imagine the insurance rate to insure a piece of glass that big, and I doubt laminated glass would hold up to the heat stress at that size.

The current model with solar roof has almost as much glass thus no insurance changes based on that. You're looking at another year well worth the wait to get the latest technology.

When the new car gets released the Gen 3 will be worth less

One problem with waiting until the '14's are here and hoping for a better price on the '13's is that any incentives that Toyota puts on the 13's may disappear as well. ie. they may no longer qualify for the low finance rates or cash back. You can still sometimes get a great deal, but you are put in a weaker negotiating position because it isn't always as clear how much the dealer really needs to get for their leftover models.

If you're ever wondering about the fair price of any car purchase, go to edmunds (google this), and they will tell you whether the price they quoted was good, fair or bad for your part of the country. Before you go to the showroom, have some numbers in mind. They will know while you're dealing if you've done some homework. A '13 right now is probably at a great price. Shop several Toyota dealers and compare.

This is your choice. The incentives in my opinion will continue as long as the economy is in the toilet. Toyota will do what they can to sell cars.

If you think you can get a great deal than pull the trigger. 2011 is a fairly new car. I would continue to drive that one. I would wait for the 2015 Gen 4 which will dribble in at the end of 2014 in 1 year.

You will get a car with better gas mileage, lighter more powerful batteries, bigger elec engine new exterior design and much more.

Is your 2011 on a lease and you have to turn it in? Than you have no choice get what is on the lot.

You're right that the incentives are good now. The real question is will they continue?

0% APR is still available on some 2013 models, other specials are for 2014 only. I wouldn't assume that any incentives will remain for 2013 models in a month or two. But the prices will go down so it may be a wash.

It's broken up into sections. Front windshield, solar roof, sliding panel.
