    Hey,
I'm looking for a new Prius and I was wondering if anyone has had any major problems with theirs after you bought them.

    Thanks!

    No, no major problems

Compared to the hunk of s*** 2000 GMC Sierra I used to own, the Prius was a breath of fresh air

Any given car can have a problem. My Prius had an ABS failure under warranty. It spent 1 week at the dealer and it took 2 trips because Mr. PriusTech didn't reconnect the dimmer switch on the dash. I believe my 1 incident is above average and that if I do have a problem it will be fixed right the 1st time.

On the other hand, Mr. Goodwrench always needs 2 or 3 trips to fix anything but to be fair they did replace a light bulb in 1 trip on my Intrigue.

The Prius is the most reliable car I've owned. If it needed to be replaced another Prius would do it.

My 2006 Prius had 26,000 miles and I had no problems at all until 3 weeks ago when another driver ran a red light and my Toyota was totaled. I walked away from the accident and all I can say is, Thank you Toyota!

I fixed the display in my 2004 model, it cost me $25.00 to fix.
In the world of Toyota cars, that's a major repair.

Biggest problem: you'll spend so much time talking about your Prius that the only people who can stand to be around you are other Prius owners (and the occasional Insight, HCH and FEH owners who wander into meetings).

I'll never forget how when my 2000 GMC Sierra was barely 2 weeks old, the rear axle pinion seal went just by sitting in my garage.

At around 5,000 km, my Vortec 5.3 suddenly developed the infamous Vortec Knock. Seriously, it sounded like an old diesel motor: knock-knock-knock-knock

Things rapidly went downhill, which completely swore me off the Big Three

Check out the many posts on the fuel bladder, smell from the air conditioner, uncomfortable front seats, and tire problems. Overall, the car is reported as reliable, well made, but overpriced.

79,000 troublefree miles. One check engine light at about 75K, inverter coolant pump replaced the same day under warranty. Original tires lasted 67,000 and still had tread, I was just tired of looking at them. I commute 90 miles a day, and wish the fuel tank was larger. To maintain a safe reserve I usually fill up twice a week. Other than that, I'm totally in love with mine. I drove the new 2010, and when I got back into mine was amazed how tight and quiet it drives even after 79,000 miles. Don't worry, just write the check and drive away happy :) ..for a long time.

Mine's been great, but anecdotes don't mean a lot. More significantly, Consumer Reports finds the Prius to be very reliable. I would either buy a 2009 at a great price or wait for a 2011 instead of buying a 2010; the first year of any majorly-redesigned anything always has some number of bugs in it.

Where are the reports about 92% of Prius owners would buy another Prius? Highest satisfaction rating for 4 or 5 years running.

    patsparks,
What was wrong with your display and how did you fix? I suspect many here would want to know.

I have a 2006 Prius with 72,000 miles and have had a horrible experience with the air conditioning - you can read my post about it. Other than that, no problems.
