Best license plate I've ever seen (in Silicon Valley, of course):

AYBABTU

 

Never saw this one but it would certainly match every driver's lament about the "other" guy:

For the Prius I still think KIX GAS in Chicago is the hands down winner.

In Rhode Island, native speakers tend to drop the final "r" in words. The owner of a local seafood place has a plate that says, "CHOWDA". And I saw a Porsche Boxster once, with a plate that read "BOXSTA".

I must be rusty with my abbreviations, but I can't figure that one out.

My two all-time favorites:

1) Seen many years ago but not since (DMV probably pulled it): 3M TA3. I saw it first when the car was in front of me, and it made no sense. Later it pulled up behind me at a light and I read it in my rear view mirror.

2) Seen recently on an older model white Ford Bronco: RUN OJ

Somewhere on a forum (could have been here), someone described a late model Corvette with WAS HIS. I have mixed feelings about that one. It's inherently funny and creative, but as a divorced male ....

 

Drove off the HOV lane one morning behind a guy with a license plate which read:

"DRWXRWX"

I gave him the universal symbol for "Roll down your window!" and complimented him on one of the funniest license plates I had ever seen. He replied "You, sir, are a nerd!" We had a good laugh and off he went.

Unix/Linux guys will get this.

I read in the news last week that a guy in Utah had his plate that said "MERLOT" taken away from him after having it for ten years. Seems in Utah that any plate that refers to alcohol or any intoxicating substance is against the law. Apparently the person who issued the plate didn't know that "merlot" is a variety of wine. However, an anonymous drived ratted on him so they took it away.
Here in RI we don't have such rules; a fellow wine-snob friend of mine has "VINO".
Personalized license plates are very big in RI- seems that every other car has them.

It took me awhile to get that one ("Dr. Waxer Wax?") Then I realized it should be in all lowercase...

And I heard about a Honda with FENRY, but I haven't seen it. (Must be a movie fan.)

 

I saw one that said 0BALLZ. Makes more sense when I tell you it was on one of the special Nevada "Spay and Neuter your pet" plates.

I saw UNVMYEX. Took me a while to figure it out.

I also saw a Hummer with MY HUM in Ann Arbor. It was parked on a driveway. If it was on some parking lot, I would've parked next to it with mine reading MY PRIA and taken a photo. :lol:

Many years ago, a friend of mine wanted to get NCC1701, but the DMV said he couldn't. He requested NCCI70I (note the use of I instead of 1) and the DMV made a mistake and set him NCC1701 instead. :lol:
