Curious what the interior noise level is at highway speeds? We own a 2014 Prius that my wife drives and it is pretty noisy on the highway and hoping the new model is quieter.

Quieter but still loud. It’s too bad that Toyota didn’t sacrifice an mpg or two to add some sound dampening material.

part of the problem is the noisy engine design that has always plagued prius with cabin noise, but provided tremendous mpg's.

Has anybody ever done this to their car? Sounds like you get a lot of bang for your buck, pardon the pun.

I was just thinking today that the noise was coming from the front doors. Our 2014 mediocre stereo combined with road noise is less than desirable. I’m assuming the stereo in the new ones has to be way better than 10 years ago but I’ve learned to never assume…

people have been using dynamat in their prius for the last 20 years. it is very effective, but labor intensive.

The stereo is good. The G5 is quiet. It's not Lexus quiet though.

Compared to my Gen1 and wifes Gen3, much quieter! I have the prime, so for around town on pure electric, REALLY QUIET!!!

For the first few weeks around town I caught myself speeding a lot. Between the much quicker acceleration and no engine noise, if it was a decently paved street I had no audible speed feedback at all. It took quite a few weeks to train myself to actually look at the speedometer again, I didn't need to on the older cars, I had a pretty good feel by noise.

Agree, it's markedly quieter than the earlier gens, but could be a bit quieter.

In prior gens, Dynamat in the doors gave the most benefit. Haven't yet seen anyone document disassembling 5th gen doors for a dynamat install. Will wait for that before DIY.

I think I am going to get a new one soon so we will see. If I end up Dynamatting I will document it. Now how to get rid of that ugly bump on the front bumper…..

Same experience here. Even with the engine on, you kinda tune it out after a short while and you can easily speed quite a lot.

I have the equivalent of the Prime in the US, tires are the Yokohama BluEarth-GT 19”, front windows are double glass.
In terms of wind and external noise is very quiet, engine noise goes from quiet to slightly noisy if pushed but almost no vibrations come in and feels more refined and “far away” than my former Gen2, the only noisy thing is tire/road noise on non-smooth asphalt. On the highway that can be loud.

Agree, the largest contributor is tire noise.

In the backseat the hatch isn't well noise protected, so lots of noise there too. But yeah, it's mostly wheel noise in the prime. On a smooth newly paved road, it's quite quiet for an economically priced car, even at 100km/h.

There are no car windows that are duel pane. What do you mean by "double glass"?

I did my '99 Tacoma way back when. Made a huge difference.
Going to do my Prius as soon as I have time

Lamisafe, two layers of glass with a plastic film between them. The windshield and front windows are lamisafe, the other glasses are made of the usual single pane temperlite. You can find several cars with dual pane windows, usually in the premium or luxury segment.

Just to avoid confusion, the glass in the front windows depends on the trim level. In North America, the LE/SE and XLE/XSE come with tempered glass, and only the Limited/XSE Premium comes with laminated glass. If Italy is the same, then the Active and Lounge come with tempered and the Lounge+ comes with laminated. But it's very possible the European Prius trims are different than the North American trims.

(I'm 100% certain the glass difference in trims is in the HEV Priuses(LE/XLE/LTD). I'm 98% certain it also applies to the PHEV Primes. I think I looked both models up to confirm it a few months ago when I found out about the differences, but it's been long enough that I can't be 100% certain about it. If an SE or XSE owner wants to check their car and confirm the info, it would be more than welcome.)

@Hammersmith : happy to check on my PPPXP, but not sure what to look for. Is there some text or a mark somewhere?
