Gosh I hope you're being sarcastic...

Most of the posters on that board seem clueless, especially the author Liz. Being ignorant is one thing, but posting "facts" about hybrids when you are fully aware you don't know anything about the topic, now that's a good definition for stupidity.

And 20 times the maintenance cost?!? I think I've spent less than $150 in almost 2 years of ownership; oil changes and tire rotations every six months.

I spend about $30 annualy on self-done synthetic oil changes every six months. I will be buying tyres come this winter, at about 40K miles.

OH YEAHH .. I almost forgot. I wax my car twice a year.

Would this person be 'anticipating' the replacement of the hybrid batteries and a $3000 talked about cost in to the maint. costs? That's the only way I can see them coming up with that figure.

This absolutely astonishingly quote came from a post on that forum this morning...

I posted a question about the recharging of the batteries, and wondered how it was done. This was a legitimate query on my part.

I immediately was hit with ridicule and mocking from the sanctimonious amongst us, pointing out it was obvious, even to a half brained person how this was done. I was called a moron for not realizing the obvious. Duh, you plug it in.

Yes, I realize you plug in the car to an outlet... but I for one, do not have off the street parking with access to an outlet.

Talking about a misconception being taken advantage of to the extreme. I had no idea some of the anti-hybrid efforts were that effective.

They also don't support Firefox if it's on a Mac. I echo that "Screw 'em" sentiment.

I found the following web page that tells you how to lie to the MSN server about what browser you are using:

    http://www.ericgiguere.com/articles/masque...ur-browser.html

I'm using firefox, so the useragent override entry I used was: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) and that let me into the MSN forum to take a look at the postings.

I'm using Firefox without useragent mods, and can read and post to the forum just fine.

I'm currently using 1.0.4. I'm willing to bet you have a more recent version, like 1.5

I'll take one of the FEH that people are giving away because the battery is expired or about too expire and you can't sell them. Dirt cheap and just put a battery in it and carry on. Cheap and worth it for me. Same for any battery expired hybrid out of warranty. A whole lot less work than say putting in a trasmission or engine in a conventional vehicle. Cleaner work as well. OK, I'm waiting!

You're right. Firefox should be exactly the same on any platform (version 1.5.0.4), but this specific message board is filtering out Mac users for no specific reason.

If I change the useragent from:
    Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4
    to
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4

and leaving everything else the same it looks and works fine.

Didn't the DOJ law suite against MSFT say not to do something like this?
