Yes, but the software mod may be negated by future software upgrade pushes. And they're going to charge money.

The New Jersey kid's mods are permanent and FREE.

There is a third mod, also costing money, involving a piggyback on the SIM card. It's out of Roumania, I think.

iphoneunlocking.com is on hold due to threat of litigation. legal worries delay iPhone unlocking.

The GSM means it's AT&T or T-Mobile in the U.S. but in Europe a lot more carriers. There's a guy in Spain already using his iPhone even though it hasn't been released for sale in Europe yet.

The New Jersey kid unlocked two phones. He's keeping one and selling the other on eBay. It was over $12,000 as of Friday night but the auction must have ended as I can't find it anymore. Teen unlocks iPhone.

CELLULARONE is also GSM, but AT&T is in the process of buying them, so it will be a moot point very soon.
