I want to buy a Prius, and found a great 2007 Prius Two with low mileage of 56,500. I'm wondering if battery life is dependent on mileage or age? Also, what are some cons to buying an older model Prius?

The price is right at $8800 but if I have to buy a new battery due to age, then it would turn out to be more expensive that a newer model. Thoughts or advice?

A prius battery will normally last 10+ years, that said, a 2007 would be right about the point where the battery can fail. On a car with that few miles, it probably would be best to buy a new battery when the time comes. Adding another $3500 to your total.

So the real price for this car will be around $12000. Is it worth it for a 10 year old car that may have other issues later?

If your budget is at $8800, maybe you can find a $5000 prius and use the rest for a new battery when you need it

Ok, so battery life is dependent on age. Thank you! That completely changes my decision. I'm not down for buying a new battery soon after I just purchased the car!

You'll be faced with that dilemma if you look for a prius that 7+ years old. Good thing is California has a 10 yr/ 150k miles warranty on the battery.

You just have to think the savings in gas will pay for the battery

Good point, thank you JC. You've brought up some great info on the warranty too, I wasn't sure about that. You rock!
