I have just read a review of the Gen 4 (haven't driven one yet), where they pointed out that the Gen 4 doesn't offer Self Park in either BASE or I-TECH models. I've just scoured TOYOTA's website and brochure and e-Brochure, and there is no mention - I've got the Gen 3 brochure and it mentioned it several times, so I'm guessing the omission means that we miss out.

Is it offered in other countries?

Yes, it's a strange omission as the car can correct your steering when you go out of your lane. You do get Smart Park Assist which seems similar but you have to do the steering yourself. Also missing is the solar ventilation system. Perhaps these things will come with the 1st revision?

Self park is available in Germany on the middle trim as an option and on the top trim standard.

It's available in Canada on the top "Technology w/ Advanced package". In the U.S., it comes with the "Premium Convenience Package" on the Four and Four Touring.

:( Maybe they haven't developed one to work in the Southern Hemisphere?

You have to get the Four or Four Touring with the Premium Convenience Package (aka a fully loaded one) to get that feature

Yes, that's why I thought it would come with the Australian "I-Tech", which is $8160 dearer than the base. It was on the previous "I-Tech" model.

In reality, I-Tech has almost nothing to attract it - doesn't have Moonroof, Solar Roof, Pre-A/C or Self-Park which were all on the Gen 3.

I was a bit disappointed when I read that the US spec version with the park assist option can't even back into the garage with driver inside. It apparently requires two cars either side to reverse park. Was hoping the two walls on either side would suffice. Tried it once with wife's 4, pressed the park assist button and it just flicks back off as far as I remember.

It works with one car at one side, you should be able to do it with an object (large box ?) to one side of the garage. You do have to be less than 3 ft away and perpendicular to the garage opening though.

That's what I initially thought. I thought it my little mind that the two pillars on either side of the garage entrance would work. Can't vouch that was 3 ft or closer to entrance maybe that was the issue.

Not really complaining as such, was perhaps hoping I was doing something wrong.

Haven't read the manual fully, started reading the navigation book, and currently on last chapter which funnily is actually about the navigation system unlike the previous chapters.

The button is on my dash on the left on the black curvy piece. It's not on my steering wheel. It does parallel parking for me. It may be we are talking about different things and I misunderstood. I don't think it does any other kind of parking.

If I pull up to a parallel parking space and hit that button, it will turn the steering wheel for me while I operate the pedals and the shifter it will instruct me when to go forward or back using the MID.

    This is what I have:

    Simple Advanced Parking Guidance System

    ■ Function summary

The Simple Advanced Parking Guidance System automatically operates the steering wheel to provide support when backing into an area near a target parking spot, and when departing from a par-allel parking spot. (Shift lever operations and speed adjustment when moving forward or backing up are not performed automati-cally.)

    ● The Simple Advanced Parking Guidance System does not park the vehicle automatically. It is a system that provides support when pulling out of a perpendicular or parallel parking spot.

    ● The Simple Advanced Parking Guidance System provides steer-ing wheel operation assistance to guide the vehicle toward the selected intended parking spot. The selected intended parking spot may not always be reachable, depending on road and vehi-cle conditions at the time of parking, and the distance to the intended parking spot.

    ■ Linking with the Intelligent Clearance Sonar function

While the Simple Advanced Parking Guidance System is operating, if the system detects an obstacle that could result in a collision, the emergency brakes operate, regardless of whether the Intelligent Clearance Sonar function is ON or OFF. (P. 361)

So I guess that picture of another Prius with a button on the steering wheel is another country/feature.

Press the button once for parallel parking or twice for back-in parking.

Mine has this/just found the button. Can you use it to pull into a space between two cars?
BTW. Not on the equipment list anywhere.

All my parking is pulling into a spot. Never parallel park anymore.
    Parking in a Perpendicular Spot.

Did you try it in a Walmart parking lot yet?

No, not yet. Will try Saturday. Although it would have been ideal if the vehicle could have backed up in my single car garage as wife cannot back it in herself due to being concerned about scraping the mirrors or worse still bodywork against the two side walls / pillars on entry.

Yes, line your car up perpendicular to the parking spot, so the front and/or back ultrasonic sensor(s) can pick up the car(s), i.e. less than 3 ft away from the car(s), press the button twice and follow the MFD screen prompts.

Can't do anything about the mirrors BUT the Intelligent Clearance Sonar system should assist in the "not scraping the bodywork" part. Apparently it can help if it thinks you're going to scrap the doors even though the sensors are located in the bumpers (it takes the steering angle into account). The printed article I was reading was talking about exiting a spot and not hitting the pillar beside. It didn't mention about reversing into a spot but the parking sensors should help.
