Is there any reason I shouldn't remove the bottom lip on my 2006

I really want to add a bra but the added lip makes it difficult. I know I can put it under the lip but does anyone know if there are any odd effects from removing it

I'm sure it's integral to the aerodynamics of the car, and those aerodynamics can be pretty fickle...even those tiny black tabs in front of the front tires can have significant effects on handling if moved or mispositioned.

That said, it can't hurt to give it a try...if it feels fine to you then leave it off, if it handles funky put it back on.

The 2005 does not have the front spoiler. I put one on my 2005 thinking that it might improve aerodynamics particularly in regards to wind buffeting and tracking. It may have helped a little but i'm not sure; there is no noticeable effect on mileage.

It is easy to remove or replace so you can try it without the spoiler and replace it if you notice a difference.

If you're talking about the black plastic thingy on the bottom, I'd leave it on. It'll let you know when you're too close to the concrete bar at the end of the parking space (by the scraping sound). :)

    At least mine does.

Since the prius 05 and earlier didnt have the plastic bottom which made the front end bra fit! Then why not ok to remove on the 06 and 07? I really would like to use a front end bra

I would really like to have a bra on the front end as well. does anyone know how difficult/easy it is to remove that from end air dam? Has anyone actually removed it? I really hate to screw something up, but if its a no brainer, then I may be qualified to take it off myself.

The '04 and '05 didn't come with the black lip...don't think it really matters one way or the other.

Also, when I was at a local dealer, I noticed that this lip, as well as the black plastic spoiler at the bottom of the rear bumper, were being installed by the dealer...my thinking is, if it's that easy to put on, it shouldn't be too much more difficult to take off...right?

I don't think there's any danger of messing anything up down there, as long as you put things back together in the way they came apart.

Thats always the key, isn't it?

All through my childhood i'd freak my parents out by taking stuff apart... i always just tell them "i'll put it back together like it was", and most of the time i did :p

About that black plastic thingy on the bottom ... mine is attached to the car at the front of the thingy, but although there are screw holes that line up nicely, the rear of the thingly is not attached - it's a dangling thingy. Is that right? Or should it be attached at both the front and rear?

I believe there is now a bra avialble from your Toyota dealer that fits with the chin spoiler. At least a few have posted they found one at the dealer.

I drove my 06 without it for 2 weeks waiting for parts following an encounter with a killer truck tire tread on the freeway. I couldn't see any diference in high speed handling, stability or MPG with it on or off. It does scrape on even the most modest driveway slope. I damaged the new one on another tire tread, but was able to repair it myself. It might be gone next time though.

FYI, my thingy is definitely attached. If there's a screwhole, there's a screw in it. No dangling thingy, thank goodness. If your thingy's dangling I'd get the dealer to take care of it (if it's still under warranty).

Quite simply the Thingy (Thingie) is the Bra and the Doo-hickey's are what the thingie covers. I learnt that in High Skool, YAMV "Your Anatomy May Vary"

If there is, would anyone who installed this new bra be able to provide part numbers, etc. The last I heard, Toyota did not have a 2006 specific model.

Yeah, there is no bra yet for the 2006. The folks who have posted have made the '05 fit the '06, or their dealer made it fit, either way, apparently you have to remove this air dam to install the bra. reinstalling it after putting the bra on I would guess is discretionary, unless it indeed serves some particularly desirable function.
