I ordered mudguards for my brand new 2010 Prius. When I picked them up from the dealer and went home to install them that's when I noticed this in the back wheels...already there....

Sorry the pic is hard to see....but it's a hard plastic part screwed into the car like a mudguard.

No that's not a mud guard per sea. They will install and cover that part. The mud guards will extend down below the level of the body a couple of inches. There are some pictures in a different thread here on the forum.

I believe your pic is looking at the front edge of the wheelwell. The mud gard goes opposite, at the back corner. That piece is a sort-of air foil. Honda has similar, calls them "strakes". Toyota has a more generic sounding name, which escapes me.

Anyway: don't put your mudflaps there, they go on the back corners ;)

My Part Number 00016-47225 Mud Guards from Southeast Toyota Distributors don't do a heckuv-a-lot, but they are cute!

Which is to say I don't expect them to deflect much mud, nor much air... hopefully keep off a little mud without a significant hit on the mileage.

    But they are cute!

P.S. Google that number if you wanna' see 'em.

I looked at the pic the OP posted, then walked out to the garage and looked at my car: his pic looks to be at the front corner (nearest front of car) of the rear wheel well. You can see the end of the rocker panel bolts.

Actually, I'm not quite sure: what specifically are you saying is not true? Mud flaps go in trailing corners of wheel wells, are we all agreed on that? I think it's just my choice of words causing confusion ;)

Oops, my bad. I replied to the wrong post. My reply was intended for Mark. But PS won't let me post a link since I'm new. I guess I clicked the wrong "reply" button when I went back to redo it.
