Took at test ride today and spent time with a knowledgeable sales mgr and nice but less knowledgeable salesperson.
They quoted me a price of $22,477 that included 3 keys.
I don't want to hunt around to save $200, but if I can save appreciably more, I'll shop the price.

Better off waiting until the recall really starts impacting sales or take the chance the furor will die down. My time frame for purchase is anytime from now thru the 3rd week in March.

    Thanks

Every recall/bankruptcy always brings a swarm of people looking to hit it big time, which drives the price up back to normal.

I'd say that if you can get the car you want at the price you want - which might be much less than you would have paid a month ago - go for it.

    Then come back with pictures!

Go to www.aaa.com, build your car & get quotes. 3 keys? I doubt it.

As I said and rechecked this evening $22,477 with 3 keys.
Likely I can do better? Another dealer said they couldn't touch the offer.

What is 3 keys? It is a Prius III? What package did you look at and what options?

+1, I agree the key question is what package?

Its the basic package. All of cars come with 2 keys. I'm out in the boonies a lot and was concerned about having a spare key stashed. My spouse would have the 'regular' 2nd key.
I was told that keys above and beyond the 2 keys that normally come with the new car are $300.

Which model is it...Level II, III??? If it is a level III, then that is a good deal. If that is a level II, keep shopping. 3 keys??? is that 3 keyfobs? Do you need 3 keyfobs?

It's gotta be tier II basic entry model he's talking about.

I've also jumped at the opportunity to buy here in San Diego, with all the negative publicity and all. I've been eyeing 2010 Prius since November. I figured it's now or never. 3 different dealers I've spoken with haven't been willing to budge despite the loss in sales, epically bad press, and decrease in value by Kelley Blue Book. I was pitching for a 1,000-1,500 price cut for a IV Solar Nav, but the fish aint biting.

I guess I'll keep shopping or wait to see what the 2011 model has in store. An 'ultimate package' Prius and the HUD feature (Europe) would be soooo nice.

I suspect the 2011's will have to be in and on the floors at most toyota dealers before they'll really do aggressive deals on 2010, and even then they might hold firm. Either that or the economy will have to nosedive even further and their revenue will have to decline significantly.

the GST dealers have $1,000 owners loyalty right now. if you are in college you can combine that with the $1,000 college rebate. you can find dealers willing to deal in gst surprisingly now.

New models come out at the time of year that has the highest gas prices. That allows the dealers to stand pat on price and wait a bit with a good chance of selling it without much discount.

Toyota is going to play it close to the vest through March and flood the market with incentive beginning in April assuming this has died down by then.

I was talking to my salesperson today while waiting for the AOB recall to be done. She said Toyota has 0% financing on the Prius until the middle of March. They are trying to boost the usually slow February sales.

I really think the next time Toyota pushes the Prius with some good incentives will be in March (like they usually do for the Spring sales events). There's a 0% APR financing incentive for the Prius right now, but you'll need Tier 1 credit (720 or higher) to get approved for that.

BTW, what part of the year is Toyotathon? Sometimes you can find deals there, but for the most part the Prius value should remain constant (which is good for the market value & resale value).

Is it only for certain part of the country? I can't find such deal in dealer or Toyota site. Just special lease deal for Prius.

Tell' em you would prefer to have brakes, instead of an extra key. I am scheduled for the brake "fix" on Saturday, although I have never been able to produce the "problem" in my Package II 2010 Prius.

That actually seems like a great price for a Package II, although the three key scenario is peculiar. Do you suppose the third key is for the washroom at the dealership?
