I have a 2004 Prius with the JBL speaker package, and the sound all of a sudden went bad in the front left and front right speakers. The sound is MUCH quieter at a given volume, and the bass sounds like it's blown (unlikely).

If I send all sound to the back speakers, they sound fine, but it sounds terrible to people sitting in the front seat if I do that (i.e. me). I found two people with similar problems ( http://www.priuschat.com/forums/gen...at-some-compatible-high-end-speakers-buy.html and http://www.ask.com/answers/10871871...topped-working-as-loudly-or-with-as-much-bass) but neither has any solution.

Anyone have ideas for this? I don't think it's related to actually blowing out my speakers, since it happened in both FR and FL at the same time at moderate volume.

E: Seems similar to http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...4-prius-jbl-speaker-replacement-question.html and http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...aker-sounds-horrible-does-warranty-cover.html . Hmm... not sure I want to suck up the $500 it's going to cost to replace these at a mechanic here.

In case anyone comes across this, I ended up doing it myself once the weather got warm. The door frames come off super easily, and it turned out the speaker cones on my left and right main door speakers had come unglued, so I just liberally applied superglue around the edges.

Unfortunately I realized this after drilling the rivets out, so I drilled new holes and reattached them with sheet metal screws. Took about an hour per door in all, and all you need is a decent power drill, some sheet metal screws, and a flathead screwdriver.

I never found "Sparky's Guide.pdf" so I ended up just winging it--didn't have any problems.

Also the JBL speaker package on my 2004 Prius sounds awesome, I could never understand what people were complaining about with the JBLs. Maybe it's just the Gen III Prius JBL package that's bad?
