Yep - 25 cents a gallon when I was a kid and had risen to the low 30s when I first started driving - you young whippersnappers.

Back then we used to joyride in my uncle's 1959 Ford or 1968 Satellite - both V8 automatics. The Satellite was great - we could get six or even seven people in it and cruise at 80 or 90 mph.

For the younger people from Hawaii - other than rush hour the H1 freeway was just that - a freeway with little traffic. We drove to Haleiwa just to eat shave ice and thought nothing of going on around the North Shore to Windward and back to Leeward - just to cruise.

Hadn't even heard the term: "MPG"...

And cruise at 80 or 90 MPH with six or even seven people in the late 60s early 70s is quite fast back then.

 

Yep. I remember those days as well. It was about .25 to .30 when I was growing up in Montreal back in the 50's & 60's. A package of cigs was about .25 too.

 

When I was touring British Columbia in 1988 in a 7 metre motorhome, a fill-up in Kamloops of 120 litres cost C$40

 

You may not be THAT old...I remember filling my 1963 Plymouth valiant at the "cheapy" station for 24.9 cents a gallon. 16 gallon tank filled for 4 dollars and off we went to go cruise.....Ah....the Prius C brings back old times!!!

 

While not .25 cents a gallon, when I first started driving gas was .74 cents a gallon back in 1999/2000. At least here in Georgia it was.

 

i have also re visited 'joy riding' in my pip. at .16/kwh i get the equivilent of $2./gallon gas!
