I don't think anything counts until the 17th, when we can actually order the car. Until now, we were just registered to receive an e-mail, that's about all. We aren't in line until we place an order on the 17th.

You should not have been able to (officially) choose your dealer yet.

On the 17th at 900 am PST, you should be able to 1) Configure your car online. then 2) Select dealer (online), submit order to your dealer via the online system (which secures you a car , but not a place in line) then you have 96 hours to confirm it or it expires.
then arrange your deal, place deposit, confirm your order-once the dealer has approved the order, you will recieve a final vehicle order agreement. then Sign the agreement online (???), confirm the order, and you are ready to go. This last step gets your order in line to be fulfilled !
