    Hello all!

Just took delivery of my '08 Touring Pkg5!!!!

    Woot!!

My father wanted to know the operating voltage of the HV system (number of cells, is it getting inverted to AC that the traction motor....)?

I looked under the wheel trim covers. I like the raw cores better, but is there anything to cover the very center of the hub nut? Don't like the look or function of leaving that exposed.

I have read in a few places about EV mode and an EV mode switch mod. What are the ideal conditions / considerations for this mod?
It almost look like in a few places when reading about pulse and glide, that EV mode was "bad" for MPG, so I'm a bit confused.

Lots of buttons to push, things to discover!!
    Thanks for the feedback!!

Hi and congrats, got my Prius just a few weeks ago, welcome to the forum.

As far as the wheels go, I'm thinking the same thing you are, and getting ready to take the covers off, just waiting on the center cap covers to come in.

Checking around, the cheapest price for these I found was:
    https://www.1stToyotaparts.com/

    I ordered 4 of these: 42603-52030
    at $9.96 each

As per this thread, which also shows a picture of the wheels:
    http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/36651-center-cap-part-number.html

Just for the hell of it, since its a Touring, I ordered the Touring Emblem from a Toyota Avalon, you'll have to use a 2007 model as a choice, if you also decide to go that route, for some reason, you can't find the same thing on a 2008, even though it is on a 2008 also.
I'm going to replace the Toyota on the back hatch, as per this thread and location on Magnetic Grey Prius on mid page:
    http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-modifications/29725-touring-badge-options-3.html

1stToyotaparts was still the cheapest for that part at $16.34

Hi Rocketnutz, welcome to PriusChat! This is the right site for information and discussion.

EV mode can cause poorer MPG if used incorrectly, and better MPG when used correctly. Overall, it's close to a wash, I believe.

To learn about the High Voltage electrical system, check out John's Energy Flow paper.

    Anything to watch out for??

    Thanks again!!!

Pump up the tires, block the grill & get the scan gauge & EBH in right away. Of course if I had found this site sooner I probably would have:D.

    EBH = Engine Block Heater

Scangauge is a device that reads some values regarding the functioning of various engine components. It plugs in to the OBDII (on board diagnostics 2) port and can also scan for trouble codes. For a full explanation search for scangauge or go to ScanGaugeII - Trip Computers + Digital Gauges + Scan Tool.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the purpose of the grill block & how is it done?

Welcome to PriusChat, Karl Schaeffer. The purpose of blocking the grill (with foam rubber pipe insulation, usually) is to help the engine retain heat in cold winter areas. That in turn helps improve fuel efficiency. The Search link, third from the right above, is your friend.

Thanks Bill! Yeah, I used to shove cardboard down in front of the radiator of my vehicles in AK. Not much need to do that in AZ.... :)
