Lately I noticed that when I turn off the car, I hear a beep. Didn't understand it, but kinda ignored it. Then, I noticed that often the car doesn't realize I have my key fob both when entering the vehicle and sometimes, when trying to start it.

Do I just need a new battery for the fob? Or is there something else? Is this just a typical battery I can buy at a store or do I need some sort of special battery?

Probably a dumb question, but whatever.

Replace the fob battery. That will solve the beep at shutdown.

You can buy two batteries from Walmart for $4. There are threads here that tell you what battery it is and also a video showing how to change it. Good luck!

    CR2032.

You can buy a bag of them from Digikey for that price, but then most people don't need a bag of CR2032s.
