I'm hearing a short series of knocks during the start up process. About 2 or 3 at a time. Then it stops.

Can you be more specific? Are the knocks pinging as you might get from low octane gas, or are you talking about a mechanical noise, such as the brake accumulator pump?

Are you talking about the clicking when you push the button to power up?

It seems to be mechanical. It happens when I go from neutral into drive or reverse.

You are sure it's not the brake accumulator pump? It runs for a couple of seconds when you press on the brake pedal. It makes a rattling sort of sound. It doesn't go every time you brake, but maybe about every third time. The sound appears to come from the driver's foot well. The reason I am thinking brake accumulator is that you mention shifting into D or R. When you are doing that, you have usually pressed the brake.

That sounds like the answer to my question. Thank you. George

Ohh... that might be the PSD engaging. Remember that the shifter is by-wire so it's just a computer chip telling another computer chip to move something mechanical.

You can also hear a click when you "shift" in and out of P. You can hear the ratchet engaging/disengaging. OF course you'll need the radio to be off.

Btw, I've moved it to the Care, Maintenance and Troubleshotting forum with a link from the Eastern Penn forum so people can find it.
