2023 Lexus UX 250h - Lexus USA Newsroom

Lexus has announced, starting with the 2023 model, the UX will be available only with the hybrid powerplant in the US and Canada. Europe still gets a gas only version as do other markets. Important distintinction is that the UXh now comes in AWD and, for 2023, FWD. The total horsepower, 181 hp (135 kW), hasn’t changed between the FWD and AWD and the 2022 model which came in only AWD. FWD model returns better efficiency by 3 mpg combined over the AWD model getting EPA 42 versus 39. FWD is also about .2 seconds quicker making the 7 HP rear induction motor more of a drag as it cuts out at 43 mph (and being 122 lbs lighter helps). Yup, this is the same motor found in the AWD Prius. The other big news is it gets rid of the trackpad and has a touchscreen instead. The physical buttons are still there for HVAC and Audio.

By being available in FWD it is the cheapest Lexus you can purchase, starting at $35,925 (includes destination, prep and handling). It’s 3 inches shorter and 3 inches wider than the Prius which gives it a stable ride. It was a contender when we went shopping 4 years ago because of its great ride, handling, front seating, quiet cabin and cabin layout, but the rear leg room was bad and the cargo storage dimunitive. The run flat tires made some noise at highway speeds, but the tires have been reengineered to make a lot less noise according to some of the video reviews.
