I've searched the forum for similar topics but I had lo luck finding an answer yet.

As the title says, my 2009 base Prius started to acting up. For the past 2 years I never experienced such issue so I think something is wrong with it but I wanted to open this up for conversation before going to the dealer.

Here we go..Today is the second day that I find my lights ON returning to my parked Prius. I never had to touch the knob to turn them OFF. As soon as I was locking the door with the remote, my lights were going OFF automatically. This is no longer happening and it is driving me nuts...

Other than my tires being pretty badly worn out I cannot really understand why this is happening. The only thing I've changed is the flasher which is now a digital one for my LED bulbs, this was done about 2 years ago.

Just the other day we had some serious rain in SoCal and I drove for a good hour in the rain, not sure if this is related or not.

    Any idea?

Did you exit via the passenger side?

The headlights turn off IF you open your driver's door. If you exited by the passenger side (because the parking spot was too small), they will not turn off.

Also, another scenario is if you turn the headlights on AFTER you powered the car down. They will not turn off after you open the driver's door.

Were you doing any of those?

    YES!!!
My 2 year old loves to play on the driver side while parked. So I took him with him and we both left from the passenger side! It make so much sense now, thanks a lot.

Now I have to find out what happened the first time, I might have turned the lights back on afar powering the car down as you mentioned.

I will run a few tests.
    Thanks again!

Np. My bro did that once (entered on the passenger side, turned on the car to listen to music and then powered it off and got out of the passenger side). Unfortunately, the 12V battery drained and I had to call Toyota roadside assistance for a boost lol. I found out the hard way.

The 2010 Prius runs on a timer (but it is customisable to the Gen 2's method) so there's less of a chance of that happening.
