I have an 05 Prius that I bought in May; boy, were the car salesmen jerks! :cussing: :cussing: I have noticed here in Portland. Oregon on several other Prius cars there is a little black square ( less than one inch) on the back of the car. It is located to the right of the plate. I do not have this on my car. Can someone please tell me what it is; perhaps part on an accessary package?

It's the SKS button. There is also one on each front door handle.

That would be the button for the Smart-Entry & Smart-Start also known as SE/SS.

Oh man, I thought for sure it was the cloaking button. I mean, what better theft-protection than a full cloak while the car is parked. Figured mine was broken. All it did was flash the lights, beep, and lock the doors.

After shopping you return to find your car with the back smashed in, a SUV with a banged up front, and a driver trying to tell the officer that there was this crunch and this &^%&^&*% car just suddenly appeared!

You must have been talking to the sales droid who sold me my Prius... kept pushing the little black button on the hatch back to demonstrate the smart key in operation, having no clue that its purpose was to lock rather than unlock the doors. Fortunately, in his zeal to demonstrate all the cars features, he failed to break anything, and the service department left all the plugs and such in the glove compartment so I could install them at my leisure rather than throwing them in the trash. Just in case anyone was wondering why NYC area owners are always asking "Does anyone know a competent service department in the NYC area?"

    Joemissionary: Im curious...

Ive never seen a Prius without SKS. At least not from the inside. Do you have regular car door and ignition key? Where is your ignition at? Maybe the same place we (those with SKS) can put or remote.

Does your car have the Start button? If so do you first have to turn on the ignition then push the button?

The car inside and the fob look the same except that the emblem on the fob is silver with SKS black without SKS; and the car does not have the SKS disable button.

Turn off SKS and your system works just like one without SKS.
