I saw a 2006 Silver Pine Mica (like mine) on the freeway this morning.
It had 2 small round thingies on the rear bumber.
They looked like they were the sort of plugs that hide holes. They didn't
even match the color of the bumper, they were black.
Any ideas what they could be?

Could be the ultra-sound backup sensors. I got four on my bumper.
They are black and about 1" in diameter each.

You can get them in the color of your car as well (then they are 371 euro here). Works fine, I like it, and it beats easily the costs of a dent I presume (silver Prius 2004).

Only if the color was not painted on the sensors. It is hard to find original plastic color that matches your vehicle, unless of cource you got a white, black, silver, or red vehicle. Sensors with paint on top develop false alarm over time due to air pocket.

I got mine off eBay (4 sensors, main unit, buzzer, and distance display) for about US$70. Installed it myself in 1 hour. I installed a set of silver sensors on my wife's Odyssey (silver in color also). :D

I got mine from the Toyota dealer. They are in the (optional) accessory-list for the Prius 2006, 349 euro in black, 371 euro in the color of your car. They look the same as the ones I saw on another Toyota (Avensis).

Thanks for the info. I might consider it myself.

Me too. I've been looking at different models, including one with 2 in the front for forward information.

That DT-506 looks interesting. Looks like 50% off for two. Want to share the savings? I'm in SoCal-LA.

That sounds tempting. I was looking at a lesser model (without the front sensors), but it does look pretty sweet. Let me think about it.

Ebay has a very cheap system from Hong Kong, but no return policy, etc. If you hear of any good deals out there, please keep us advised.

The rear bumper would be really easy to install, but I'm not too sure about the front. I really want the front more than the rear, as I've already creased the front bumper hitting a column when parking in the Wiltern Theatre parking lot.

I agree. Mine match the car and were fitted by the dealer before I took delivery last year. It beeps intermittently when you're about 3 feet from something - slowly at first but with increasing speed as you get nearer until you stop when you hear a continuous whine. You are then about 6 inches (15 cms) from the obstruction.
But if you have poor hearing, as I have, the beeping is not really loud enough. Does anyone know whether the sound can be increased?

The funky thing would be to get a cheap one and mount it in the front. Have a switch that turns it on and off. When you're pulling in to a parking space, switch it on. You'll get the readout on how close you are.
