    Hi all,

My Prius was parked at work. It was about 35C, no shade unfortunately. I came outside to go home and when I opened the boot I heard a LOUD, and I mean LOUD, creaking noise. I thought the lifters were giving trouble. I moved the boot lid up and down from it's open position to try and pinpoint the noise. Turns out the top hinges were creaking very loudly. They were also hard to move.

I remembered the boot lid is made from aluminium and the rest of the car from steel. The two have different expansion ratios. In the heat, the hinges must have become tight cause when the car is cool the boot lid opens smoothly, no noise.

I decided a dab of chain lube on the hinges might do the job. I'll try it and report back. Anyone else noticed this?

No, not even at 40'C. Insignificant manufacturing variation, perhaps. Let us know how the lube serves.

I've had my Prius at 46C parked in the sun and haven't had a problem.
