A minor irritation for me with my 2012 Prius is I cannot hear the turn signal flasher and so frequently when doing a merge or lane change forget it did not cancel and can't hear it. Is the flasher on these cars unique or can I buy a universal louder flasher at an auto parts store?

I have the same irritation too (plus a few others as well). From what I have seen in other posts the flasher is not easily replacable (bolted in and hard to get to). There was one suggestion of wiring a Radio Shack Pizeo Element to the flasher. I haven't had time to follow-thru on this, but do have the wiring diagram (attached).

I have no problem with the flasher........most of the time I have my music on so even if it were louder I wouldn't hear it. Just look at the dash......it has the arrows. Why not just use them?

You must be the guy who is moping along in the right lane with his left turn signal still on!

Same complaint here. Cannot hear it with the windows open or even with normal conversation.

Yeh, the Gen III is definitely quieter than the Gen II. I suspect the problem is partially the location of the flasher in the Gen III.

It will be a week or so till I have a chance to try the Pizeo solution.

This is the problem. Both gens use the same flasher.

The gen2's flasher is located towards the bottom of the dash where the gen3's is pretty far up in the dash.

Keep in mind that some of us are middle aged or more. I can't hear the flasher without my hearing aids. Worth getting you hearing checked.

I would love to turn off the flasher permanently....if you cant check your dash or use your left hand to turn off the signal...you are too old to drive.

There speaks the voice of inexperience. Any thing that takes your eyes off the road for no matter how short a period is a bad thing.

Then why are ALL cars manufactured with some sort of gauge cluster?

Tell me do you watch the gauge cluster or where you are going. Instruments are a necessary evil in a car, one reason why the indicators have an audible warning. In the UK the lack of audible warning would fail our yearly MOT.
