i don't think it determines which tyre, maybe tech stream? what pressures are you running, cold?

You have a 2008 Prius. It's about right that the TPMS give you warning. Probably the TPMS is at end of life. You probably have to replace all of them. Don't think you can buy a battery and put it in. TPMS warning light isn't a big issue. It still let you pass smog.

^ Since TPMS was mandated in 2007 model year (according to APT5020's link), maybe this is just starting to be an issue.

I'm just glad it's not compulsory in Canada. And there are systems that avoid costly sensors in individual tires, rely on variations in tire revolutions as they deflate?

good point, it will be interesting if this is the first of many. if that's the case, there will be an explosion in complaints, as they are not cheap?

As we all know, the TPMS SENSORS for the tires are very expensive!!!

Is there a way to ELIMINATE the TPMS $ warning light, so that I can put on old fashion regular tire valves on my tires?

Try this. Deflate all tires and fill the air again to the correct amount. Sometimes this will reset the TPMS.

Also, sometimes you need to drive it for few minutes and the warning will go off.

It's one little light, less intrusive than the passenger seat air bag status. You forget it's there after a while, with snow tire sans sensors.

I don't believe there is a TPMS sender on the spare tire.

i wish there was, but it would have to be specific. i wouldn't want to have to pull the dang thing out, only to find it was another one.

since our govt here in the USA is a pack of worthless retards, they decided we had to have an active system, even though using the wheel speed sensors which were already on the car would have worked just fine. I really wish the towel heads had flown a plane into the capitol building instead of killing a bunch of innocent new Yorkers, and hardworking pentagon employees. they would have done us all a big favor.

most likely one or more of the batteries which are molded into the sensors, has gone bad. a tpms tester, which most shops have now, can read the battery life of the sensors.

I had to replace one several years ago, and got another 2 when I bought 2 new tires. One original 2006 left...
