Times are tough at General Motors, but while the automaker had to shell out $2 billion to pay off former partner, Fiat, cancel product and platform programs, idle plants, increase project losses 50-fold and boost incentives to record levels, vice chairman Bob Lutz knows where to point the finger. The former Marine and one-time Chrysler president has been increasingly vocal in his criticism of what he deems unfair media coverage. He told a scrum of reporters that they are promoting "the myth of foreign supremacy" at the expense of domestic brands, unfairly suggesting that GM is in trouble. While Lutz didn't deny that the automaker has some challenges ahead, he insisted they were far less serious than the import-biased press believes. "This is the third or fourth time I've seen this movie, and it gets less scary each time."

    The Five Stages of Grieving
    1. Denial, shock and Isolation.
    2. Anger.
    3. Bargaining
    4. Depression.
    5. Acceptance.

I think they've gone from stage 2 or 3 straight to stage 5.

There there Mr. Lutz . . . of course it gets less scary each time. Acceptance comes when the changes brought upon by the loss are stabilized into a new lifestyle. Death may be sudden and unexpected or we may never see beyond our anger or denial.

    Putz! :x

    Bad press, Mr. Lutz?

Have you read some of the "reviews" about hybrids?

With all the bad press GM is getting, do you think Mr. Lutz is ready to hook up a cardiac defibrillator off that Silverado "hybrid"?
As the "Heart Beat of America", has GM flat-lined?

GM Stops Buying Ads in The Times
By David Colker, Times Staff Writer

    Excerpts:

General Motors Corp. on Thursday pulled its advertising from the Los Angeles Times over disagreements with car reviews and other articles that have appeared in the newspaper.

The world's largest automaker said the move was "based on strongly voiced objections from our dealers in California about factual errors and misrepresentations in The Times editorial coverage."

A GM spokesman would not specify the errors or say which articles caused the rift.

A GM executive, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Wednesday's review of the Pontiac G6 by Times Pulitzer Prize-winning automobile critic Dan Neil was particularly offensive.

Neil wrote that "GM is a morass of a business case" and called for the ouster of GM's chairman and chief executive, Rick Wagoner. Among other things, Neil took the company to task for not more aggressively developing fuel-efficient cars and focusing instead on SUVs.

Intentionally publishing untruths is lible, isn't it? When a major company is libled, they sue right away to clear their name. I mean, who wouldn't fight an untruth if it inderminds your marketing and damages your reputation?

    Unless...
If the articles aren't lible, if the reports aren't untruths, the most they can do is pull their advertisements.

Your thoughts will always determine your actions.
Your actions will always reveal your thoughts.

    Well said.

Like it's somehow *our* fault they really bungled their marketing and dismissed the Prius as a flash-in-the-night fad.
