Magnetic grey, #8, 01/06, Palo Alto, CA

    Date: end of 01/06, (could have been early Feb.)
    From: Magnussen - Palo Alto, CA
    Time frame: May
    Color: magnetic grey
    Options: #8 - fully loaded with leather seats
    # on list: They say we are #1.

    At this point, we call weekly. Apparently, they know nothing until the car hits the dock in Benicia. And right now they know nothing. Does anyone know what the deal might be? Did Toyota quit making this color? Surely someone at the factory has some idea where our order is. But no one seems able to find anything out. We bought our 2001 (pre-oredered) from the same dealership. They were very nice and we had no problems. We could take our business elsewhere. But maybe everyone is having the same delays? The car we're replacing (not the other Prius) is about to roll over and die. We need to know how long to keep it running (read how many $ to invest). Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Welcome to Prius Chat.

    My understanding is that they just STARTED to produce the Magnetic Grey color in May (which may account for some of the delay) rather than phasing it out. Last week, we met a fellow taking delivery on the same color Prius who ordered sometime in March, for example.

    Other factors like package availability and dealer allocation levels will affect the date as well. Many on this Board advocate making multiple refundable deposits so they can take the first one that becomes available, even if it requires a bit of travel.

    Putting $$ into a dying car is rarely a good investment.
