Consumer Reports says you are buying the car most liable to get to 200,000 miles relatively trouble free.

Lots of Prius owners buy another.

My son has one and around 110k miles. Mine has around 24k. No issues on either.

The car is proven to be low maintenance, not high, the only people who complain about maintenance buy them with 225,000 miles and expect no trouble. My Prius never had any problems, just routine maintenance, it was just that other people kept hitting it. Got an Avalon and now longer have that problem.

    YOu do? Really ?
    From where exactly ??

We hear no such stories here; well at least no more often than any other model of car.

If you really want to see a lot of maintenance problems just visit a Volt forum or two.

any used car can be a problem, if you buy from a private seller you will know the REAL history, if you buy from a car lot who knows what's been patched up to resell it.. And from my fathers advise never marry a hooker and NEVER buy a used rental car or rebuilt wreck..

44k miles on a 2012 Prius hatchback and no problems.
Careful buying used, but the Prius seems to be much lower than average maintenance from all I've read.

I had a 2011 Prius Two. I put 48,000 miles on it. Zero problems. The most economical car I have ever owned and I have owned several cars.

I've only heard good things about the Prius and my friend has one which I drive all the time. Plus they get great gas mileage. For those reasons I bought one.

If you're hearing bad things about them then why do you want to buy one? If you are hearing bad things about the prius it's probably coming from people who hate the car for no reason. The Prius is a great car. I'm not a big fan of the name and I've talked to a lot of people who feel the same, but other than that it's perfect.

I think that if you're a hypercommutter you're nuts if you DON'T own a Prius.

I drive a company Prius. It's a 2010 that I got brand new and have put 80,000 hard miles on.
That means that I really don't have any reason to like or dislike the car, in fact.....there are several things that I really DON'T like about Priuses but one can NOT say that they're unreliable.
The only problem I've had in 80,000 miles is the 12v battery.
The truth is that if you buy a Prius and keep it long enough, there isn't a car out there that's much, if any cheaper to own.
Unfortunately and suprisingly, Illinois isn't a CARB state.

Make sure you get 2 keyfobs with the car.
Do not let a dealership do any repair work on the car without asking on this forum first.
Toyota dealerships are pretty bad about doing "maintenance' that doesn't need to be done.
You might not get 150,000 miles out of your brakes in Chicago traffic, but if you drive like an adult you should get over 100,000 miles.
    Good Luck!
