Minimum miles/month to keep ‘05 happy and healthy?

    As discussed fairly recently, I have an ‘05 with 175k miles that I’d like to keep around for awhile though it will be demoted from being the primary to the secondary car. (5 years is a good target) How much or how often does it need to run to keep everything from getting auto-arthritis? It will do lots of short trips around town but I assume that it should also get some full speed highway time.

    You should try to drive it weekly. I know thats hard to do once you get used to driving your New primary driver.

    limited driving days may require a 12v maintainer.

    the bigger issue is the hybrid battery. does she burn any oil?

    No significant oil is burning. I’m reading threads on how to get an idea of battery life. If we replace I will absolutely plan on at least 5 years.

    would still need a maintainer if only driven one or two days a week.

    If you're still on the original HV battery or a rebuilt, it won't last another 5 years or even 1 year with little to no use. See the link in my signature to see what happens. Budget accordingly.

    It will get used, just not as much as before. I’m thinking that I’ll use it until it needs a battery at which time I’ll assess the wisdom of putting >$2k into it.
