Modifying for racing?

    After flipping through the tech forum and this one, I did not see anyone mentioning doing anything to make the Prius faster other than weight reduction. Our 07 is ours outright, I have a techstream, and I want to autocross (and many years from now maybe even dragrace) this beautiful car. My wife would shoot me if I ripped the interior out so I need to add power rather than remove weight. Has anybody started fooling with putting out more power from the electric side yet?

    Thats nice! That's what I was looking for. Now to go do some research. Anybody know if the stock ecu can be loaded with the TRD calibration?

    That's hilarious. I autocross my Lotus Exige in ASP. Never even crossed my mind to autocross the Prius but could be fun. :)

    There are any number of things you CAN do, none of which will leave you with a street legal Prius which gets good gas mileage and Emmisions.

    Car and Driver drove a Land Speed Record Prius that had the Otto Cycle Echo engine in it.

    There is a gentleman in Australia who first Supercharged, then Turbocharged his Prius.

    Beyond mere sanity, there is no reason you could not use Nitrous.

    Nitrous... now there's an ideal way to feed my insanity...

    i've always been curious about that one.. would it even work with our engine design?... it would be crazy.. crazy fun... the batteries would fill up quickly then you would run off of a boost... both electrical and mechanical in sorts...

    As seen above we are working on turbocharging a Gen2 and a Gen3 Prius(only pics up are from the Gen3). We are still in the process of obtaining parts to do our first test fit on each car.

    There are several suspension mods you can do for autocross, see my sig. Feel free to PM if you have any other questions.

    HAHA this thread is awesome. But lets be realistic, we are working with 76 horses here regardless if u turbocharge or go lighter.

    Since the same engine block in a Toyota Echo got 108 HP as an Otto cycle engine, there is reasonable hope to get around 108 HP in a Prius. I just doubt you will get good emissions or gas mileage afterward.

    So what? Shifter karts have engines that are like 40hp, and they hit 60mpg inside of 4 seconds. The power to weight ratio is EVERYTHING.

    You still have interior door panels and your windows aren't Lexan yet :D. Jokes aside: nice job! I wonder if that improves battery cooling?

    josh: any clue how much lighter your car is now?... i would imagine the seat backs and spare save the most amount of weight.. the rest of those panels and seat cushion really won't weigh a whole lot

    I'd guess 75-100lbs. Having all of that removed does keep batt temps 15-25deg F cooler during racing.

    i'm surprised you haven't removed door panels. i know on the GenII it's really easy to remove them.. you can even leave the window control buttons still connected (pull them off the panel)

    The door panels dont weigh that much and im sure id have even more road noise then i do now so not worth it to me.
