OMG! Does anyone know what it means when the motor keeps running? At stop lights, drive thrus etc. 2010 Prius 4 with 253k miles.. Just bought it and it usually drives like it's brand new. The charge bars fills up fairly quickly and stays up. Will only drop if I'm cruising through a parking lot or two looking for parking. Motor only acts up every few days and stays running until I manually shut her off.

    Thank you

When the traction battery is full coming to a stop, the computer will use the excess charge in the battery to "spin" the gas motor to prevent over-charging. It does not burn any gas, it's just spinning the gas motor to use up excess battery charge. Rapidly filling up and depleting the traction battery is an indication of degraded traction battery capacity, and you are at the point where a traction battery recondition/replacement is warranted.

Make sure that the car is not in 'B' gear when it should be in 'D'.
