Move up the Rear-View Mirror for better forward vision

A much simpler fix for the non-garage-door-opener mirror is to turn
it upside down and push it up as high as possible. Would that work
with the type with the buttons too, if the driver was willing to
simply use the buttons at the top of the mirror frame? It looks like
the wire harness would still reach fine.

I turned my mirror upside down and the wiring is fine. It's not lifted to it's upper most limit though 'cause if it was, the sensor for the auto-glare would be shadowed by the roof console. I think it actually works better now 'cause before the headlights would be shadowed by the center support of the hatch (between the upper and lower glass). Now the lights behind me shine directly into the sensor. Also, being upside down, the side angles of the mirror more closely match the angles of the rear roof line and provide a much better view out the back.

 

Rotating the mirror upside down is a great suggestion. I've driven my Prius for 15,000 miles and, being 6 feet tall, would always have to duck to see what was behind the mirror when making right hand turns. With the mirror rotated upside down, it has easily given me a few precious centimeters of viewable windshield that was previously hidden!

I did this a couple weeks back.

It's great, I can now see cars waiting to make left turns onto the road I'm on.

The only caveat seems to be that the viewing angle of the contents within the mirror is dipped, and so part of what I used to be able to see is cut off by the top of the hatch.
Tilting the mirror slightly downwards to conpensate results in a shorter viewing distance/range.

Why are people moving their rear view mirrors upside down to get them higher? For a taller person the stalk must also be adjusted up. The mirror assembly has three pieces: mirror, stalk, windshield mount. The stalk can be swiveled inside the mount just like the mirror can be swiveled on the other end of the stalk. To do this, return the upside down mirror to its regular position. Grasp the mirror on the right and left with both hands. Pull the mirror slightly toward you while pushing straight up toward the car roof to move the stalk until it stops. Then adjust the mirror to the desired position.

Ugg, that was the wrong link above - I am looking for how to move my "fully loaded" mirror up as to make it where I don't have to duck around it.
