MP3 detail view doesn't show genre

I just got a package 7 2006 Prius in late January and I love it! But here's my question.

When I'm playing an mp3 every now and then I'll look at the details for the song which shows the artist, title, and album information. There's also a line on there for the genre but it's always blank on the mp3s I've tried. Now maybe I've just forgotten to put that info on the CD-RWs I burn but since I tag my songs religiously I doubt I would've mis-tagged that many songs. So, does the song detail screen show genre information for other people?
