Just got my Prius last night. I love it. However, there is nothing in the manuels that tells you how fast it can be driven once it is broken in Also, can someone give me a simple guide as to how to break it in.

    Thanks.

Prius can reach 107 to 110mph maximum speed.
As for breakin of Prius, like other vehicles
    - avoid rapid acceleration, rapid stop
    - avoid high revving of your ICE (engine)

This is not saying you should drive sloooowwwww. In fact, you should drive at all speeds that you intend to use your Prius (not over 70mph, I suppose).

I took delievry of my 06 prius yesterday. My dealer showed me a section in the manual that talk about break-in. His points where that for the first 600 miles go easy on acceleration (esp at highway speed) and avoid hard stops. To be honest I think that is simply boiler plate text for toyota.

I plan to drive it carefully at speed limits for the first 600 miles... well actually that's what I plan to do afterwards as well so I won't do anything special.

Just don't HIT anyone because you didn't want to slam on the brakes ;)

Unless something has changed from the '04 model, I think 104 MPH is the max - limited to ensure you don't blow the electric motor.

While I would avoid drasticly aggressive acceleration during break in, the whole theory of varying speed and cautious acceleration is really not applicable to Prius for ICE break in.

The RPM swings are so dramatic and variable at almost all speeds depending upon terrain that the driver's intentional input into the process is basicly irrelevant.

I can inform you that it does go faster than 104mph... infact i've had mine at 110mph. I am well aware that this is illegal (in the UK and US anyway), however it was at 3 o'clock in the morning on a deserted motorway and i really wanted to get home, plus it was fun. Call me irresponsible if you wish, but it does go faster than 104mph...

    B) As fast as the posted speed limit is :) if not look into your review for those pretty red and blue flashing lights.
