I'm back, with deepest thanks to all who took the time to weigh in on my many questions before taking the (financial) plunge. I am now the happy driver of a 2011 Prius Three, not III, with 46000 miles. Thanks to all I learned here, it is certified (for which they did the brakes all around) without even a price rise from the previous uncertified offer and I held up against the onslaught of the financial guy's pressure for the extended warranty. I will hop over to the appropriate forum for help with all the technology, but so far, in the first week I figured out how to use the voice activation for navigation and my not-so-smart tracphone via bluetooth. I held out for the lll specifically for all that tech because I've found, as I've sailed past 60, that I am not so steady on the road when I am reaching for things or trying to read paper maps while driving. I will say, however, that coming home over the steep dirt road after over an inch of late snow over mud, I did not make it up the hill and had to back down a half mile and go the long way around. Oh well, my 2WD pickup can't even do it with 4 snow tires. I know I will be putting on snows before next winter.
I'll be talking with ya'll in the technology and maintenance fora soon.
    Thanks again my friends

Now, if I can only figure out how to ask a question of the help topics so I can figure out how to update my Profile too.

Congratulations, Goatmother! I hope you enjoy a long and happy relationship with your recent purchase. I too bought a certified 2011 Prius a few months ago, replacing a much older high-efficiency car.

You edit your profile by pointing at your name where it appears near the upper right corner.
We learned yesterday that some things don't work though; that is, you can't seem to change them.

But, more importantly, forget about cars.
I want to hear more about the goat !! :)

Really? I can post pictures, but I don't want to be drummed out of chat for going off topic. If you really want to hear more about the goats, you can friend me on facebook or email me off list. To tell the truth, it's the goats that have kept me from getting a Prius for a long time. Can't pull a trailer with the Prius, or let them ride in the back (as I did with my Volvo SWs.) So if I have to take my goats somewhere, I have to take my monstrous 3/4 ton pickup. My son calculated that with the better mileage of the Prius, I would still use less gas (or diesel) by just using the truck when I have to for the animals. :).

Really? I thought Toyota advises against it. Don't want to overtax the engine. But if you do pull a trailer, what is the safe load rating?

    About two goats. ;)

Honestly, a small trailer should be no problem

Now, ya think I could pull jus' this gal and my burro fer a packin' trip inta the Adirondacks? (Thet gal, she's a bit over 400 but that's after a hard winter, tryin' to feed her up to 'bout five. . .
Now the car though, I'm trying to get back down to 120, so the car don't have much inside cept me an the dawg (she's

The thing I love about America is its diversity!
    Welcome!
Several folks have bolted on Class 1 hitches, mostly for supporting bicycle racks but I think I read posters in some thread pulling small utility trailers and maybe one guy pulling a small boat. Not endorsed by Toyota, though.
I would hate to be butted by a 350 pound goat! Didn't know they got that big.

Ah yes, they keep you on your toes. You never turn your back on the big guys; never know what they'll do. But if you're ready to slap them on the nose, they respect you!
