My "new" 2004 Prius with 110K miles

    Hi all. I just purchased a 2004 with 110K miles on it! The car had one owner and it looks like it was taken good care of.

    I just found this site about 30 mins ago when I was searching for help with the FOB. Both of them run out of battery (or so it seems) a day after I bought the car! I'm wondering if I pressed the wrong button somewhere?

    Anything else I should be thinking about with a car with this many miles on it!

    There's a button on the bottom front of the dash that disables the smart entry feature. With that disabled, you have to insert the fob into the dash to start the car and have to push the fob button to unlock the car. You may have bumped it with your leg.

    Curious what you paid for your Prius. I have a Package 9 2004 with about 96k miles that I'll probably sell with about 110k miles this summer. Private sale or from a dealer?

    It turned out that the battery on one of the FOBs went out. After wrestiling with it for a few minutes, I managed to replace it. All is good now!

    Paid $9K at the dealer.

    How can I find out what "package" my car has? It only came with the owner's manual and it doesn't mention stuff like that.

    If your car didn't have the 100K mile service where the engine and inverter coolants were replaced, I recommend you have that done now. The iridium spark plugs should be replaced at 120K miles. Also I suggest that you have the transaxle ATF replaced now although that is not listed on the scheduled maintenance guide.

    In CARB state, 110k mile pack replacement will be free due to warranty. Out of 150k miles warranty, you can get a brand new pack under $2,000. Add the cost for labor replacing it. The old pack has $200 recycle bounty so take it to a dealer to offset the labor somewhat.

    Toyota lowered the price of the battery pack in 2008. They will likely to lower it again before your 2010 need a replacement in 2020+.
