Just bought a 2005 Prius over the weekend with 100,600 miles on it. It looks and drives great! The seller took great care of it and kept all maintenance records, which made the decision easier (I was wary of the high mileage at first). He recently replaced the water pump and had the brakes done for the first time around 90k miles. Since yesterday, I've driven about 100 miles and averaged just over 50 mpg. A plan to move closer to the beach will increase my commute from 10min to almost an hour, so I definitely look forward to saving gas money with the Prius.

Look forward to chatting with you guys and gaining some useful information. Hoping to hit 200k without too many hiccups along the way!

Chris, congrats and welcome to the forum!

May I ask what you paid for the new car? It may help some of the other members who are currently looking for similar models with similar mileage. I just sold my 2005 as-is for $6,000 considering it had 158,000 miles and was missing some parts.

I ended up paying $8700 for it. I was nervous about spending money on a car with 100k miles, but after searching and comparing prices online, this seemed reasonable.

The only thing I need to replace are floor mats and a new battery for the spare key fob. Otherwise, very clean for an '05. Being that the owner recently took care of the brakes, water pump, etc. (almost $1000), I think I paid a fair price (or at least I hope I did!)

Sounds like a good price to me, especially if it is in great condition. :)

It's great to buy a prius ... knowing it's still got a lot of life in it - even with 100k miles already racked up.

    welcome!

Check whether the 12V battery is original or new. If it's original or even somewhat old, consider getting a new one. You'll save yourself some headaches and maybe even some $$$ in the long run.
