Hi everyone. I just bought my new Prius. It's a 2005, black, with 49,300 miles. Purchase price was $17,700. I normally keep all my cars for 12 to 14 years & I hope this one will last. Just a few things I wanted to ask. 1. My insurance costs $800 a year for this car (with USAA). What are others' experience regarding insuring this car? 2. I bought it from a Toyota dealer. Does anyone think I should change the transmission fluid or antifreeze? 3. How does one change the pollen filter? Any other recommendations with a car with this mileage on it, I would appreciate it. Oh, by the way, 4, the dealer offered an inclusive warranty above the manufacturer's policy for $1300 that would ensure the car to 100,000 miles, meaning all parts, electronics, etc. I think this could be a waste and am opting out because in 3 years my wife will have accumulated over 100,000 miles. Any thoughts?

    thanks for your time everyone.

    John

Welcome. I hope the manual came with the car. I'd pass on the extended warranty but a search will bring up many threads. The cabin air filter is behind the glove box and is easy to replace. Filters tend to be expensive so I buy online from a Toyota dealer at a deep discount. Enjoy the car.

Whaaa?! I'm with USAA too, but I'm paying $700 for a SIX MONTH premium! Are you sure you guys are paying for a whole 12 months' premium - then I'm paying twice as much as you guys for my prius! If anything, I got one point against me, and I doubt that's making me pay double.

    WOW - this is news!

I took it right off my bill. my six month premium is $353 for the Prius. I have several other vehicles and two teenage drivers on the plan also, so the total is more.

I am also insured with USAA and pay about $370 per 6-month policy. Keep in mind your premium depends on your deductibles, coverage amount, driving record, usage, state laws, etc... Just dropping the comprehensive deductible from $1000 to $200, will cost me $18 more per 6-month. USAA has a calculator on their website where you can play with most of the numbers and it will show you the difference in your premium without having to actually make any changes.
