As some of you know from another post a few months ago my Prius developed an engine shudder issue at around 140k which turned out to be a head gasket. Swapped the engine out myself with an eBay engine and everything was running great till I just passed the 150k mark (about 150,100 miles) and my dash lit up like a Christmas tree. It now turns out I now have the notorious brake booster / accumulator pump issue (Code C1391). This issue Toyota acknowledged some years ago which is why they increased the warranty from 3yr/36k to 10yr/150k. By the time I got to an authorized Toyota mechanic for an official diagnosis the car had 150,300 miles. I called Toyota explaining to them my situation and after going back and forth with customer support for over a week they refuse to cover ANY of the repair cost! One dealer estimated repair cost to be $4,100 and another one where a friend works at $2,295. Although I can swap an engine this job is well above beyond my ability or equipment I have access to. Does anyone have any suggestions, like how I could get in touch with a higher up at Toyota (CEO, CFO, CTO, whoever) and make an appeal? It is hard to accept that the world's largest car maker won't spend a dime to help pay for a notoriously problem part they have admitted is an issue. This past year has been such a bad experience I don't know if I will ever buy another Toyota even though I have owned many generations of Toyotas going all the way back to a 1977 Corona wagon.
