Need Help with painting my lower body side molding.

Have any of you done this? I am novice on paint, I've found this, what do you guys think? I am trying to get the molding a little darker while maintaining the chrome shine and has a slight contrast to my Winter Gray with Hyper black wheels. If I don't like the color, should I paint over the paint or try to remove it?
