Is there anyway to get a deal on a 2008 (the lighter blue, is it called sea pearl?) rear bumper. We have the touring edition, but I don't imagine that is relevant.

We had a rear ender followed by side swipe. Otherwise, doing pretty well, we hope, at about 160K. Husband gets 52 to 54 MPG, drives about 80 miles a day. Has driven the car for over 2.5 years. Getting close to the crossover point where the extra money we spent for better gas mileage has been paid for in gas saved. However, the maintenance has been cheap. Just change the oil and do a few simple and cheap things so far.

All Hail to Galaxy and her advise paper on tune ups.

    Jennifer,

Can't tell where you live from your avatar...
These folks are in Indiana. They are a Prius-specific salvage and
rebuild company. They have an excellent reputation here for price
and service. Check them out, maybe they have what you need.

A new rear bumper cover will go for $164 plus shipping from an
Internet supplier, $215 from a dealer and would need to be painted.
    Cost? Maybe ~$350 :noidea:

    Hope this helps.

Make your own, it's easy with the right tools and some clear finish, but make sure you use exterior finish.[IMG]

I recommend looking for a good used OEM bumper cover at a salvage yard in your area. Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market will help you locate one. (Guessing you could find one out in Rancho Cordova). You might luck out and find one you don't have to paint.

Beware the cheap aftermarket bumper covers, they are of inconsistent quality and fit. But they do work.

Most auto body shops will be able to order the part for you and custom paint it. Expect to pay at least $300.

I was rear-ended in a parking lot a few months ago (ended up with a small dent and scratch) and $250 was the cheapest quote I could find. That was just to remove the bumper, fill in the dent, sand the whole thing, and paint it. I didn't go for the repair because the damage was so minor. Plus if I ever do need to get a new bumper it might be aftermarket, hehe.
