    Start from a bald-faced lie as the premise, and BS flows downhill effortlessly

    It is called a kidnapping because a state of war had not been present. The abduction was an act of war, and subsequent military actions by Israel then decried by Hamas as disproportionate make for ludicrous reading.

    Hamas cannot set the scale of a conflict that *they start*, any more than they can take the moral high ground when they lose.

    While I share your disagreement on how these kidnappings are portrayed by Caleb Carr, his basic premise that Israel made a huge mistake in going to war in Lebanon and in the manner in which it was prosecuted.
