I decided to go to a local Toyota dealership after work last night 6/21/07 to see how much they can offer for my 2002 Lexus IS300 since I don't drive the Lex that much (gas price and NA Supra engine don't go to well together). A few hours later, I came out with a 2007 super white Toyota Prius with package #4. I know I am going to miss the power from my IS300 but not the MPG...so hopefully I made a good choice.

Awesome. Enjoy your new car. You actually can hit the current EPA estimates if you're willing to modify your driving habits.

It won't be so bad. I've got an Acura RSX-S that I've used for both racing (on a track, not street) and as my daily driver. On monday I went and bought a black '07 Prius (package 2, last prius in stock!) to be my new daily driver because of gas prices. I can keep up with traffic just fine in the Prius. And if you think about it, you never get to use your fast car's performance in stop/go traffic anyway....so you won't miss it at all.

very true..IS300 used to be my track car as well. What is the optimal speed that I should stay in to get good MPG on freeway? 65~75MPH?

Wind resistance increases geometrically with velocity. Below 50 miles per hour it isn't much of a factor. The best mileage on the freeway would be slower than the speed limit.

As tballx said, below the freeway speed limit is best for MPG. Personally, I do exactly the speed limit (it's 60mph here) so that I can get good milage while also not pissing off most of the other drivers. It's my happy medium (most freeway drivers are doing ~60-65, a few ~70). Road rage=bad for everybody.

I kept my RSX and have retired it strickly to the track now, since I couldn't part with it. No more daily driving. Now I can really go to town on the engine mods.... :p

I guess I will stick with 65 MPG speed limit or lower. Thanks for the tip!

Yup, no problem! :) Enjoy your Prius. Remember: every dollar saved on gas can now go towards your Starbucks/Tullies/Other Favorite Coffee Shop fund! LOL! :p

There should be a CA Prius club that you can join and hang out with. Go to the top of this page, and click on Community --> Local Prius Clubs, and then scroll to CA. You can hang out with them, learn about your Prius from them, and obsess over your car with them. :) Oh yeah, and if you want to mod your Prius, check out the Prius Accessories (top of this page).

Bikes are good! You're lucky that the weather is always favorable for biking over in CA. Most of the year here is spent cold, snowy, and rainy. *sigh*
