The US defense department is setting up a special unit aimed at influencing 24-hour news outlets and websites around the world

In a memo obtained by The Associated Press, Dorrance Smith, assistant secretary of defence for public affairs, said news teams of people will "develop messages" for the 24-hour news cycle and "correct the record".

    THEIR QUOTES, not mine.

i haven't trusted the media in years anyway. while i agree that the press never presents the whole story, instead opting to play up drama or whatever gets people's attention, the government influencing the news content is a frightening idea.

According to my information, they were considering using Doberman to "influence" Priuschat until they actually read some of his posts.

I only look at the mainstream corporate media to get a feel for what what direction the oligarchy wants to push people in that day.

All the more reason to watch The Daily Show. If we're going to be watching fake news, it might as well be entertaining.

    Well put. Scarily well put.

And here I thought it was a "vast wasteland."

No, but the US has become a vast waistland.

(By the way, I am proud to say I have lost 5 pounds in the past 2 weeks just by walking 4 miles a day and eating less. Pedometers are great motivators. I really have to be careful about recommending pedometers these days - hysterical mobs might burn my house down.)

I think you're involved in the government conspiracies you speak of. You're looking for those that believe your theories so they can be hunted down and silenced.

I believe there's a much more ominous reason you're mentioning a pedometer. You're giving people a way to crudely measure distances.

OooooK! But those efforts have been ongoing since at least the Civil War. It may be going by a different name and actually on the organizational chart as a unit but they have been there since the Civil War and most probably before. Geeeeez, using Aljazeera as a news source can't you find enough hate and vitriol about America in the home grown variety?

Americans Will Ask Themselves, 'How Did This Happen?'

“The Americans will ask themselves how their government could embrace what may be the most consequential foreign policy disaster in U.S. history, without any serious resistance from Congress, the opposition or the public.â€

Exactly. Our model is Mao's "let a hundred flowers bloom" initiative. I am an agent provocateur which is why I am constantly fomenting trouble and urging law-breaking and violent revolution. All the better to decapitate the revolution by indentifying and expediting removal of the ringleaders to Syria to be personally water-boarded by Dick. Kerry will be sent there too, as an "unlawful combatant" for undermining troop morale and giving material support to the enemy. Once we win the elections next week (thanks to Diebold's voting machines), the US will be safe for Halliburton, Kellog Brown and Root, Exxon, Dick, George, you and Doberman. As for pedometers, that is our subtle way to how the middle class will be travelling in future, once we have completely impoverished them. Enjoy your Prii while you can!

By the way, it was not very sporting of you to blow my cover.

There is no "opposition." The Democratic party is in the pockets of the same corporations as the Republican party is. And the public is too busy watching television to have the foggiest notion of what is going on anywhere.
