My wife and I purchased a base 2011 model four two weeks ago. We wound up getting rid of her 2009 Subaru Tribeca. Just got tired of getting between 15-16 miles per gallon in the city (which is all she drives). It was sad when I could walk outside and it didn't matter whether I drove the Subaru or my truck, which is a newer 1 ton dually diesel. Anyway, we love the Prius. Not really new to them in that there are 3 others in the family. 1 second gen and 2 third gens. Great forum here. I have been reading for some time now and thought I'd join up. Learned a lot already.

    HOWDY! and welcome to PC.

Driving in a major urban area (you know, with the crazies) isn't the best environment for getting big MPG numbers but they will still be WAY better than what she was getting. You and/or the wife should read up on the driving techniques that maximize the hybrid design advantages.

Welcome aboard and enjoy your ride. I was surprised at the Tribeca's gas mileage... terrible.

yes, but the Tribeca weighs 4400lbs and is full time all wheel drive with about 260hp & 260lb/ft of torque. so big differences between it and a Prius. the subi was rated 16/21.

    Aloha and Welcome,

Enjoy the new Prius. I to switched over from a Subaru also as did many here and I can't say I really miss it all that much. I did enjoy the turbo performance but not the MPG's in the low 20's and the Premium Fuel requirement. I do enjoy the smooth quiet ride of my Prius and the FE.
